Touch interface professionals Wacom today announced the upcoming launch of the Nextbeat Mk2, the updated version of their innovative DJ solution.
Available across most of Europe from the 10th of September users can expect to see the following updates to the all in one mixer/player:
16Gb of on board storage.
BPM Sync.
More file formats: WAV, AIFF, MP3 and AAC-LC.
It seems at this time then that the main update is the inclusion of on board storage, which suggests the intention to promote this device more as a portable solution (it has the same footprint as a 12inch record) that DJs might take to clubs with them, rather than an intended ‘industry standard’ that you will find pre-installed in clubs.
This makes much more sense. Manufacturers are all to keen to try and replace the set ups that we see in clubs, but this is much harder than it seems. For a number of reason other than just quality and performance. However Wacom seem to have the right thinking here by pitching the device to the same type of DJ that might take a laptop and a midi controller to their gigs, they can now take a solid state device and leave their computer at home.
It is good too that these relative new comers to the market at sticking to their guns, and playing their strengths. Don’t forget the Mk1 was no pretender. Sporting an intuitive touch interface and an innovative removable wireless controller.
Fingers crossed we will get one road tested asap and give you a further insight once available.
