Rumours of a midi controller dedicated to DJs using DVS’s such as Serato and Traktor have been floating around for a while now. Finally the guys at DJ Techtools revealed what the noise was all about.
Not content with the now almost legendary midi fighter controller, it seems they had also been tinkering with an idea that would solve a common problem for today’s digital DJ – creative control without touching the laptop.
Working with hardware specialist Novation, it seems the partnership has come up with the goods, the result being the ‘dicer’.
The video below shows it in action, but expect youtube to blow up with many more pretty soon.
This device basically enables DJs to get the most out of the extra features afforded by a DVS, whilst avoiding the usage of the laptop keyboard, which some feel is a barrier between them and the audience, as well as just a physical impracticality. This seems like a great idea to me, and something that can only make the live performance more interesting, the only minor downside is that it is one more piece of kit to lug around and cable up.
A small price in the scheme of things!
